Permission for photography and filming

Photography and film making are only permitted in Suomenlinna for personal, non-commercial use. The owner or leaseholder of the premises, for example a restaurateur, may grant permission for indoor filming and photography within this part of the fortress. Photography and filming are permitted in the conference and banqueting facilities.

Suomenlinna is a national monument and UNESCO World Heritage site. Public activities within the area require an outdoor area use permit granted by the Governing Body of Suomenlinna.

Agreements on photography and filming enable the Governing Body of Suomenlinna to protect the dignity of the national monument and World Heritage site. These agreements specify the right of applicants to use the monument in their productions. The person in charge of the production agrees to remain within the agreed area, to respect the limits imposed on maintenance vehicles and parking, and to be responsible for appropriately supervising, guiding and notifying the public of the agreed filming locations. Any factual information regarding Suomenlinna must be presented faithfully.

Permission for photography and filming is granted by the Administration unit of the Governing Body. For application forms and enquiries please contact the registry by e-mail:
