The personnel of the Governing Body consist of 90 employees. The offices of the agency are located on the main island, even though most of the work is carried out on the other islands.

The Property unit is in charge of repair and maintenance, landscape development and cleaning operations. The Planning unit is responsible for planning, developing and supervising renovation projects, whereas the Construction unit manages the implementation of projects. The Administration unit is in charge of the development and general administration of the organisation, residential apartment leases, conference and banqueting facilities, co-ordinating tourist and travel services, and financial, human resources and data administration.

“The Governing Body of Suomenlinna provides interesting work to its staff, and it is easy to see how motivated employees are to work for the World Heritage site,” says Personnel Manager Tuula Saarinen.

“The sense of community that prevails among the staff creates a great atmosphere.”

Nearly half of the staff live in the fortress.
