Suomenlinna Museum
The Suomenlinna Museum operates in the Visitor Centre and covers the history of the 260-year-old fortress, the dry dock and the life of Russian soldiers and civilians in the garrison town.
The permanent exhibition displays utilities, tools, weapons and ammunition found in Suomenlinna excavations and attics.
The entrance fee includes the Suomenlinna Experience widescreen show, which runs in the museum auditorium every half an hour.
The widescreen show tells the story of the construction of the fortress and the Swedish Coastal Fleet, naval battles fought around the fortress and life in the garrison town during the Swedish, Russian and Finnish periods. Audio commentary is available through headphones in Finnish, Swedish, English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Japanese.
The museum is open throughout the year.
How to get there
The Helsinki City Transport ferry operates to the main pier throughout the year, and from there the Visitor Centre is about 500 metres away. The waterbus stops at the Visitor Centre pier during summer.
