Restaurant Walhalla

The high-quality Restaurant Walhalla, located in Kustaanmiekka on the southern tip of Suomenlinna, was opened in 1952 for entertaining guests attending the Helsinki Olympics. Today, the restaurant serves visitors to the fortress.

The Walhalla restaurants (Walhalla Gourmet, Pizzeria Nikolai and the Walhalla Sun View Terrace & Bar) are only open during the summer season, but can be booked for events throughout the year.

Walhalla Gourmet

There are two main halls in the restaurant: the main dining hall caponiere Delwig, with a vaulted ceiling, which seats 180 to 200 people, and the smaller cabinet Boije which seats 30 to 40 people. The restaurant is known for its high-quality wine selection and extensive menu.

A catering service is available at Walhalla throughout the year.

Pizzeria Nikolai

Pizzeria Nikolai operates with Walhalla on Kustaanmiekka. Tables are set in the labyrinthine casemate vaults and on the sunny terrace. Pizzeria Nikolai is named after Nikolai Sinebrychoff, the Russian-born founder of the oldest brewery in the Nordic countries, who lived in Suomenlinna The most popular choice on the menu is the house pizza with gherkin and sour cream. Pizzeria Nikolai is only open during the summer season.

Walhalla Sun View Terrace & Bar

The Walhalla observation terrace, which offers a breath-taking view of the archipelago, is located in the fortification of caponiere Boije. The terrace, built on several levels, seats up to 200 people.

How to get there

The waterbus stops at the King’s Gate, which is about 50 metres from the restaurant. The Helsinki City Transport ferry operates to the main pier throughout the year, and from there restaurant is about 1.5 kilometres away.

Accessibility

There are some steps at the main entrance to Walhalla, but the restaurant can be accessed with a wheelchair from the back entrance with assistance from restaurant personnel. There are several different levels in the restaurant, but the restaurant is equipped with ramps. The restaurant toilet is very small, but it is accessible with a wheelchair.

A long, narrow staircase leads to the observation terrace. With assistance, Pizzeria Nikolai is accessible with a wheelchair via a steep ramp.
